Last Monday morning, our pet guinea pig, Stormy, gave birth to 3 little babies. Naomi, Sarah and Alex were quick to buy a baby. Now Emily is waiting anxiously in the hope that Rosy has babies soon. Keep an eye on this page for a photo.
This term we are exploring Biblical occupations, comparing them to jobs our grandparents had and jobs our parents have now. I wonder what job I will have when I leave school? Does it even exist now? mmmmmmm
Mrs G has some special visitors coming to our classroom on Friday. We will talk about the jobs they had. We will have to ask some challenging questions. We hope they enjoy being in our room.
School’s closed! Bayside decided to follow the lead of over 300 other schools in our area and shut their doors today. Forecast winds of over 140km/hr. We are in a bush setting, so it is a good idea to be safe. We join others in prayer for safety over these hazardous days.
WOW! Grade 3 and 4 have just returned from Melbourne’s city centre. We stayed at Melbourne Discovery in Franklin street. We toured the M.C.G., Eureka Tower, rode trams, trains, visited Victoria Market, ate hot donuts, went to the Melbourne Aquarium , had dinner at Cafe Notturno in Lygon Street and Trios at Southbank. We were all exhausted, but elated on Friday as we trained it back to Frankston. Thanks to Mr Gaskell, Mrs Elliott, Mr Shaw, Mrs Allen and Mrs Govan for coming with us and helping Mrs Robertson, Mrs Gould, Mrs Paine and Mr Lancaster keep us safe.
On Thursday our school, Bayside Christian College, raised over $3000.00 to aid the fire disaster victims. Our families have also donated toys, clothes, utensils, bedding and even a caravan! Well done, Baysiders! Keep up with the prayers too.
All students have been learning about measuring in centimetres. So, today we began putting what we know into action. We measured lines of various lengths, 5cm, 10cm, 15cm, 30cm and a 5cm square. We drew these lines with chalk on a piece of hessian that our Teacher gave us. Then we were given a needle and some wool. Mrs G taught us 2 different stitches (chain, blanket) to sew along our lines. Sam G was great at both stitches. Chloe, Liam , Shayne and Hannah thought the blanket stitch was easier than the chain stitch. Naomi was able to keep her stitches pretty straight. Shayne said he really enjoyed the sewing. We will do more next week. Mrs G forgot to take photos. Thanks to the mums who came into help us, after Mrs G showed them how to do the stitches!
Grade 3 constructed numbers to 999 today. They used MAB’s to construct a series of numbers to show their understanding. This activity was a ‘follow up’ to their book work. They ordered 3 digit numbers from smallest to largest, identified the ‘largest number’ in a group and labelled ‘flats’, ‘longs’ and ‘ones’ (blocks from the MAB set). Very clever, Grade 3.
What a busy, hectic week to begin our new school year. Everyone managed very well. Ben was sick for a couple of days, so he had to stay home. Koe has the girl guinea pigs for the weekend and Naomi has Lukey. Sam, Shayne, Molly and Koe are working on their first project – Shayne and Sam finished theirs on Friday afternoon. Well done boys.
The rest of the class enjoyed their first ‘Freaky Friday’ by choosing various activities to do. These included construction sets, a drawing and reading corner, the whiteboard centre, symmetry and patterns with pegboards, caring for our pets, and Around the World (board game).
